More Love, More Joy, More Life
Founded in 1983, Highland Presbyterian Church (USA) centers itself on the promise of God's limitless love for us through Christ. We believe that God loves us personally and calls us all towards peace, hope and joy. Our values of hospitality, equality and generosity are reflections of the freely-given love God bestows upon us.
Our Worship Style and Community
Our worship style can be described as 'traditional casual'; we have a regular order of service, but our style is informal and friendly. Our music is a mix of old and new and our sermons seek to address the issues we face today as Christians in a changing world.
Our community is small and close-knit, meaning everyone has the opportunity to contribute. Despite our size, however, our members are diverse in age and background. We have an active youth group as well as adult education, meaning you are never too old or too young to get involved.
What It Means to Be A Presbyterian
Highland Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church USA, a mainline Christian Protestant denomination representing nearly 2 million members worldwide. We are a progressive denomination and actively support equal rights in both membership and ordination. We also encourage members to be involved in the leadership of the church, electing representatives and adopting a "bottom-up" approach to decision making. Finally, we put emphasis on the role of education in developing faith, and offer opportunities for study and continuous learning.
Opportunities to Serve and Connect
In addition to worship, our church is home to many other social and community activities. We host Alcoholics Anonymous and organise drives for those in need. We grow fresh produce in our community garden for a local food bank. And yes, we wouldn't be a church in South Louisiana without a crawfish boil and a pot-luck every now and then!
